Ferguson protests in the media
The situation in Ferguson is one of the major news topics since August, when Michael Brown was shot to death by Darren Wilson. Every new piece of information sparks heated debate and violence on the streets, now not only in Ferguson, but in many other places as well.
More than 100 000 articles were produced on the topic, so we analyzed this difficult and very sensitive problem, as usual, staying neutral – every research we do is based solely on numbers and facts.
The results, however, reveal something more than that.
We split our findings into five sections.
First, the timeline, shows the number of stories published every day from 9 August to 9 December. It shows very clearly how new developments affected the media.
Second is the citation chain. We found the most cited story ever written on the topic, the one revealing autopsy findings on St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and tracked how it spread. Every circle represents the most cited article on every level.
Third is most shared opinions, showing how the public feel about what is happening.
The fourth section includes some of the top rated comments and it also reflects public opinion.
Finally, we found out how some of the top media referred to the victim, Michael Brown. The findings here are for you to process – as we said, we only count, leaving the rest to our readers.
Stay tuned for new researches!
